Ta-boo
Taboo is located in the heart of Worth Avenue and has been a Palm Beach institution for over 50 years. Although ownership has changed once or twice, in its latest incantation under proprietors Nancy Sharigan and Franklin DeMarco, Taboo remains a landmark and a scene. Translation: it draws the out of towners and the locals. And boy, on a weekend night does it draw a lot of both. And for a lot of good reasons! The bar and restaurant were packed with quite a lot of rubbing elbows in the narrow passageway to the back rooms. The over 40 crowd, seemingly largely single, was in good supply.
The offerings on the continental menu are impressive in variety as well as preparation. And based on experience I can add that if your appetite demands something that's not on the menu there is a good chance that you will be indulged.
The shrimp cocktail consists of 4 collosal, very freshand very satisfying shrimp, with a standard cocktail sauce and a 1/2 lemon which is appropriately dressed to avoid that unpleasantry of needing to remove the seeds from your dish. I guess it also prevents your neighbor from getting squirted in the eye! The Ceasar salad is well constucted although a bit salty for my taste.
Salmon with beurre blanc is very good, although not quite the best on the Island. The prime rib is delicious, ample, juicy, and in fact it would be difficult to offer improvements.
Desserts are of the stick to the ribs (or waistline) school of culinary arts. However, the Chocolate Fruit Fondue is excellent, and if you go light on the fondue I guess you might consider this a healthy heart dessert.
